Hybrid working in practice

In practice, there are five different types of hybrid workspaces. The types of workspaces your organization chooses depend entirely on the type of organization and the wishes of the employees. Little support for a particular type of workspace means you do not fully benefit from the advantages that hybrid working brings. And that is, of course, a shame. 

The basic conditions for hybrid working

Regardless of which type(s) of hybrid workplace you choose, a number of basic necessities must always be present. We are referring to a personal keyboard and mouse for every employee. It is the only way to ensure flexibility, hygiene, and ergonomics, both at home and in the office. Additionally, it is important to consider in advance aspects such as meeting facilities, workspace reservation systems, and flexible office furniture.

The types of hybrid workplaces

Right, we are going to talk about the different types of hybrid workspaces. Five in total, each with its own pros and cons. Each type also requires different office supplies. We have listed them for you. 

• Fully mobile workplace
  

  Your employee does not have a primary workstation. During their workday, they work at various workstations, with all office supplies ‘moving’ along. To enable ergonomic and hygienic working, it is important for the employer to provide a mouse, keyboard, and laptop stand. Additionally, office reservation systems, for example, are practical. This way, an employee does not arrive at a crowded office where no workspaces are available.
  
  

   

• Primarily from home: The home office

  We expect that many employees will work partly from home and partly at the office in the future. It is important that they have an ergonomic home workspace to work ergonomically from home. Think of a sit-stand desk and an ergonomic office chair. At the office and elsewhere, they work remotely.

  Primarily from the office with a fixed workstation

• Is it only possible—due to the position—to work from the office at a fixed workstation? Then a good, ergonomically designed office is of great importance. Read more about ergonomic workstations.

• Primarily from the office with a flexible workspace

  In this hybrid workplace, the employee primarily works from the office but performs his or her work in various locations. The workspace is therefore shared with other employees, making it important that it can be easily adjusted by the user.

   

• Collaborate with mobile option

  Creative collaborations and knowledge exchange among employees are increasingly central. When spaces are designed flexibly, it is possible for employees to work there temporarily while mobile.

The use of flexible furniture ensures a sustainable project interior that can be easily adapted to the activities taking place in the space. 

What does your office of the future look like?

Are you allowing your employees to return to the office partially or fully? There are several questions you can ask yourself to arrive at an answer. Consider the following:

• For whom is working from home suitable, and who is better off at the office?
• Are there sufficient tools to work from home and at the office?
• How do you determine the different functions of spaces in the office building, and which are (no longer) needed?
• What do your employees find important?
• Which additional facilities, such as meeting and reservation systems, are important for this new way of working?
